Safeguarding Red Squirrels in the Greater Morpeth area
Morpeth Red Squirrels was formed in September 2008 as a logical development of Ulgham Red Squirrels.It was only too obvious the need for an overall strategy for the Greater Morpeth Area. The threat of greys was and still is a very serious danger to our population of reds.

The growth of the group has been quite spectacular , so much so that we should really call ourselves Greater Morpeth Red Squirrels. We have representation in 7 areas of Morpeth including Fulbeck, Newminster/The Dell,Fairmoor,LancasterPark,Loansdean/ Stobhill,Kirkhill/Springhill,Cottingwood. Areas out of Morpeth include Stakeford,Lynemouth,Mitford,Widdrington Station,Shadfen/Bothal,Ulgham,Hartburn, Ashington, Pegswood Longhirst, Harelaw,Widdrington Village and Hepscott.
When members of the public are contacted for whatever reason they invariably want to be kept informed as to what is going on in their district or village. At the moment the number is over 300 and no doubt will continue to grow.
