Road Casualties

There are dozens of reds killed in Northumberland every year. It does not help their cause as they seem to have absolutely no road sense, in fact it's as if they have suicide tendencies.

We are encouraged to report such accidents but experience shows this to be an absolute waste of time and effort.

The official procedure is not too easy in as much all requests for road signage have to be submitted to the County Council who in turn refer to Northumberland Wildlife Trust. After their comments the county refer to London for approval. As you can guess it takes such a long time its not worth trying.

Some members of the public have been so frustrated by this beaurocratic nonsense they have taken the initiative and erected signs themselves. In these cases the accident rate has dropped.

iIt is much easier to have signs placed on someone else's property which can be easily seen. County still have to give permission but it is much quicker.
